This is definitely a flying carpet wizard week. I just don’t see any other way to move this many links.
Down to it, then.
Get your necromancy fix on the go
Veles points out a new podcast for those of a spooky disposition. Definitely something to make the tube more enjoyable of a morning.
Here’s a really fascinating post that dovetails nicely into the recent discussions around Christianity and evangelism.
Yes, I’m going to continue banging the indy publishing drum. If you are similarly interested, this is a great round-up to get your started in the post-iPad era.
I’m a generally upbeat person, but there are quite a few madness-shaped icebergs that can scuttle you if you take positivity too far. We shall mention no names. (Because the article does.)
MDMA turns out to be good for PTSD
Not all that surprising, really. But it’s a positive sign that such possibilities are finally being looked into. Lousy war on drugs has put mental health back by decades.
It also dovetails nicely into PJC’s famous quote: “Personality is chemisty.”
A new Crowley play will be performed in Edinburgh this month
Which I wish I could make it to. But fringe festival successes usually make it to the capital eventually so I have my fingers crossed.
Like they weren’t already awesome enough. Anyone else notice how much the pre-human history of the earth resembles the mythological pre-history of the earth?
This is another score for either genetic memory or retrospective clairvoyance.
Jason’s running some Hekate classes
Which sound absolutely fantastic. Pity there is that pesky Atlantic in the way. If you are not as geographically-challenged as I am, then you definitely need to book quick.
Truth is where it’s at this week
Robert’s blog is the place to go first to see what others have posted. And then see Jack’s response. I had a similarly visceral reaction to Jason’s post.
It’s a hallmark of truly good writing that it feels as if the author is speaking to you personally. And Jason’s post is absolutely that. In my case -and possibly Jack’s- I would also suggest that the reaction is based on the fact that what Mr Miller describes is the unblockable chaos magic king hit.
You reach this conclusion and it’s a fork in the road. You either turn left and go truth-hunting or turn right and spend your life in a Bob Wilson-esque state of ‘humble skepticism’. I haven’t made up my mind yet.
This is a lovely post/essay which offers a great overview of McKenna’s contributions to counterculture. I got given one of his books for my birthday and it’s next on the list in my ‘new books pile’.
Competitive Christians on poles
Another splendid piece over at the Hannibal Blog covering asceticism, martyrdom and other Classical things.
V.V.F. welcomes back Anne Rice
You can’t have missed the news. And you mustn’t miss V.V.F’s response to it.
Duncan is raising money by sleeping with ghosts
Now this is some highly individual fundraising. I applaud the cleverness!
Balthazar is giving away some free readings
Get them while they’re hot/before he regrets being so kind and is flooded with requests.
Whilst not strictly historically accurate, it’s certainly a comprehensive rundown of the more orthodox modern Pagan view. And it’s certainly the day for it.
